Kazuki Umigishi
Biography
1984年東京都生まれ
2008年 東京藝術大学美術学部絵画科油画専攻卒業
卒業後、グラフィックデザイナーやミューラルアーティストとして活動したのち、2020年より本格的に絵画制作を再開。現在は主にアクリル絵具を用い、キャンバスや変形パネルを支持体として制作している。デジタルドローイングを出発点とし、色彩の重なりや視覚的な作用を取り入れた抽象表現を展開している。
Statement
グラフィックデザインの経験を背景にデジタルドローイングへ取り組む中で、線を描くことと消すことが絵画における根源的な行為であると考え、デジタルの筆致を基盤とした抽象表現を探求してきました。
その過程で、色彩の知覚や相互作用への関心を深め、視覚的な作用や知覚のずれに注目し、色を中心とした表現の可能性を模索しています。
絵画だけでなく、デザインやさまざまなカルチャーから受けた影響を礎に、自分自身が本当にかっこいいと思える絵画を追求しています。

Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1984
B.F.A. in Oil Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts, 2008
After graduating, Umigishi worked as a graphic designer and mural artist before resuming his painting practice in 2020. He primarily works with acrylic on canvas and shaped panels. Beginning with digital drawing, he develops abstract paintings that incorporate layered color and visual interaction.
Statement（En）
Drawing on his background in graphic design, Umigishi began working with digital drawing and came to regard the acts of drawing and erasing lines as fundamental gestures of painting. Since then, he has explored abstract expression rooted in digital mark-making.
Through this process, his interest has expanded to the perception and interaction of color, focusing on visual effects and subtle shifts in perception while exploring the expressive possibilities of color.
Drawing not only from painting but also from design and a wide range of contemporary culture, he pursues paintings that he genuinely finds visually compelling.
